FAQs
Where are you located?!
We are aiming to start a Study Group near the Pleasant View Shelter at the Middle Road Soccer Field Complex, meeting on Saturdays 11am - 1pm.
Do I need to buy any gear in advance?
Students are encouraged to purchase their own mask, though we have plenty to Loan. If students are interested in really taking on the hobby, we next encourage them to purchase their own jacket. We are able to provide all loaner gear for a $5 fee per session.
Is there free parking?
Yes.
Will I get hurt?
As a martial art that involves swords, there is the potential to get hurt, however we have not had injuries in any of our Intro classes. Students will get bruises, and they will get a workout from wielding 3lb swords. Our instructors are there to ensure the safety of each and every student.
What if I'm afraid of hurting someone or being hurt?
Instructors make sure that new students are reasonably safe. Students will not be hitting each other full force, and especially not in the first few classes. There is no requirement to participate after the lesson, so if anyone is not comfortable with free sparring, that's fine. If a student is interested in learning to be comfortable with free sparring, there are opportunities for 1-on-1 training during our regular Longsword classes.
I don’t like group classes. Do you have private lessons?
Previously we have offered private lessons for Longsword, Sword & Buckler, Saber, Rapier, and Dussack. Our rates are $40/hr for 1 person or $60/hr for 2 people. To find out if we may offer them again in the future, contact us.
I don’t have a partner, can I still come?
No partner required! And it’s really easy to make friends here. We are a non-judgmental all-inclusive group with a shared love of swords. Come as you are!
Where does my money go?
Students’ fees are used to pay for gear, water, and washing the jackets regularly.
