FAQs

Where are you located?!

We are currently only meeting at the Upper Trailhead of Fall Run Park on Saturdays. We hope to announce an indoor location for Saturdays later this year.

Do I need to buy any gear in advance?

Students are encouraged to purchase their own mask for Intro, though we have plenty to Loan. If students choose to continue with classes after the Intro course, we next encourage them to purchase their own jacket. After students complete the Intro Course we have a small fee for using Loaner Gear.

Is there free parking?

Yes.

I can’t make it to all 8 Intro classes, will I fall behind?

We can easily accommodate students who might miss a class. Our lessons often build laterally, so if one class is missed, a student is not necessarily “behind” on the material. There are always at least 2 Instructors in attendance so one Instructor will be assigned to get a student caught up on any pertinent material so they can jump back into the current lesson.

Will I get hurt?

As a martial art that involves swords, there is the potential to get hurt, however we have not had injuries in any of our Intro classes. Students will get bruises, and they will get a workout from wielding 3lb swords. Our instructors are there to ensure the safety of each and every student.

What if I'm afraid of hurting someone or being hurt?

Instructors make sure that new students are reasonably safe. Students will not be hitting each other full force, and especially not in the first few classes. There is no requirement to participate after the lesson, so if anyone is not comfortable with free sparring, that's fine. If a student is interested in learning to be comfortable with free sparring, there are opportunities for 1-on-1 training during our regular Longsword classes.

I don’t like group classes. Do you have private lessons?

Yes, private lessons are available for Longsword, Sword & Buckler, Saber, Rapier, and Dussack. Our rates are $40/hr for 1 person or $60/hr for 2 people. For more information, contact us.

I don’t have a partner, can I still come?

No partner required! And it’s really easy to make friends here. We are a non-judgmental all-inclusive group with a shared love of swords. Come as you are!

Where does my money go?

All money is re-invested into the school, which is a registered non-profit (not a 501(3)c). Students’ fees are used to pay for our gear, rental, and events.
