Class 8: Thrusting and Thrust Defense
A long distance thrust is tied for the furthest range and fastest engaging action that can be done while covered against an opponent. This requires precise footwork and body structure to accomplish.
From left Plow (or right Plow if you are lefthanded), first take a Gathering Step, bringing the back heel to the front heel. Then extend the point towards the opponent’s throat or face with the crossguard flat and your thumb on the Schilt. While extending your arms begin to bend at the waist keeping your back straight and your arms high. The forward leg lunges forward (an extremely deep Simple Step) as far as possible. While this happens touch your ear to your dominant shoulder and twist your other shoulder and arm above your head. Next the back leg makes a Passing Step while you maintain the upper body posture. If you have done this correctly, the opponent may either parry or be stabbed (or try to dive and twist underneath the thrust but that is very risky).
If parried, during the compass step drive up into Kron and follow with a left Zwerhaw during a Compass Step.
This can be dealt with by the “Heretics” Guard. Collect the thrust with a light long edge bind while leaning back. This can be followed into one of three resolutions.
Scoop their blade with your long edge crossguard over your head into a hanging guard and oberhaw the other side stepping offline to avoid their momentum (they will try to run into you if they are doing this correctly).
Twist your blade to bind on the short edge, scoop their blade straight up with your short edge crossguard and Underzwer to their hand or elbow while Compass Stepping offline. This is the most difficult action to take but also the most difficult to defend against.
Counter-Zwer underneath their incoming Zwerhaw immediately (“Indes”) after putting their point offline.
